The main differences between leather paper and PU lie in material, application and environmental friendliness.
Material and application
Leather paper is an environmentally friendly packaging paper. It is soft, has a leather-like feel, and its surface layer is wear-resistant and foldable. It uses environmentally friendly water-based ink and comes in a variety of colors and patterns. Leather paper can be classified into several major categories based on material, such as PVC leather paper, PU leather paper, wood pulp impregnated leather paper and domestic leather paper.
- PVC leather paper: It is made by coating a PVC film on the paper base and pressing various imitation leather textures. This material was initially produced in South Korea. Although it can pass the ordinary SGS eight environmental protection requirements, it cannot pass the more stringent EU REACH and ROHS environmental protection tests. The main problems are odor and non-biodegradability.
- PU leather paper: Its characteristics and production process are basically the same as PVC leather paper, but the surface material is a PU film. It has only been widely used in recent years.
Environmental friendliness
- PVC artificial leather paper: Due to its non-biodegradability, it is not considered an environmentally friendly product. Even though some manufacturers have produced PVC artificial leather paper without a pungent smell, it is still not regarded as an eco-friendly material because of its material composition.
- PU artificial leather paper: Although its production process is similar to that of PVC artificial leather paper, the surface material is PU film. It has only been widely used in recent years, and its specific environmental friendliness depends on the chemical materials used.
